Despite the numerous positive reviews, a few concerns have been voiced. Some customers note that the shop isn't always open, which can be frustrating for those longing for a taste of its famous fish and chips. Occasional waits during busy hours can also pose a minor inconvenience, especially for those eager to sample the food. A handful of visitors have mentioned that they wish there were more variety in the menu, particularly regarding vegetarian options. While the establishment shines with its fish offerings, a broader menu could cater to more diverse dietary preferences.
Honestly I think this is the best fish and chips I've ever had. Will be back.

You know when you are on holiday and just hope that the local chippy is ok? The food at this place isn't ok, it's excellent. The nicest piece of cod I have had for a long time and the chips cooked in dripping as well. Heaven. Why can't more chippies be like this.
Superb chippy! Been coming to Staithes for 10yrs and never found this shop open much to our sadness! Maybe new owners/bloody either way it’s open Wed - Sat classic chip shop hours! Sat in with my son and shared F&C and they were top draw, could not fault. Team were lovely and asking if we liked them etc. They have tables to sit and each at which was handy. We will be there every time from now on. Better than that place in Saltburn by a mile! Well done Team Excelsior 💪
Popped in here for our lunch today, we were looking forward to Fish and Chips by the Sea after our walk in Staithes and Runswick Bay, we'd found this place on Google Maps as we were staying in the area. Our Meals were delicious, the Cod in lovely crispy batter, Chips and Mushy Peas were delicious, best we've had in a very long time, will definitely visit again when we're passing. 100% recommended, if you're nearby, go! You won't be disappointed 🙂
A young crew, but work great together and excellent service. The fish and chips were awesome. We travelled to try this venue and were not disappointed. 100% beef dripping and sustainable fish at a great price. I just wished we lived locally 😊. Thank you
Don't miss the Regular Cod & Chips or the mouthwatering Jumbo Cod & Chips. The haddock and chips are also a favorite, known for their soft, thick texture and crispy batter.
Most dishes fall between £1 and £10, making it an affordable spot for a delicious meal.
